'Abd al-Razzaq, Kamal al-Din
(1413-1482)
'Abd al-Raz-zaq's father, Jalal al-Din Samarqandi, held the position of qazi (judge) and imam (leader in prayers) in the service of the Timurid ruler Mirza Shah Rukh (1405-1448). 'Abd al-Razzaq was enrolled in Mirza Shah Rukh's service in 1437-1438 and was sent to India as an envoy of the Timurid court in 1441. There he visited the Zamorin of Calicut and the ruler of Vijayanagar during 1441-1444. 'Abd al-Razzaq came to Vijayanagar in 1442 during Deva Raya's reign (1421-1449). On his return to Herat in 1444, he wrote Matala'-i sa'dan wa-majm'-i bahrain (Ascends of the Auspicious and Con-course of Oceans), which recorded the experiences of his journey to India in the second volume.
